Frequently asked questions about dreadlocks
How long can I leave my dreadlock extensions in?
We advise leaving your extensions in for 4 to 8 weeks; however, the duration is ultimately up to the customer and their personal preference. Regular care and listening to your hair are important. Once you can fit a finger between your scalp and the Dread, it's time to uninstall. You can always feel a difference when it's time to uninstall.
What are the most important tips for dreadlock care?
To keep your dreadlocks looking great and lasting long, we advise a few key practices: Sleep in a silk bonnet to prevent frizz and friction. Gently finger comb your dreads once a day unless you prefer your extensions to dread up.(This is in reference to curly and beach wave dreadlock extensions) Use a refresher spray daily to keep them smelling fresh. Use a weightless oil on your scalp to help with dryness.Wash your dreads as you would your hair, according to your preference, but do not use conditioner on your dreads. It'll end up leaving a build up and residue and we generally recommend once a week for optimal hygiene. I also recommend if your going to brush your dreads getting the wig brush. Works wonders. Or use a big tooth comb and be gentle.
Do dreadlock extensions break or ruin my hair?
This is a common misconception that is far from the truth. Dreadlock extensions do not break or ruin your hair; in fact, they can strengthen it. When you uninstall them, you might see a lot of shed hair, but this is your natural hair loss. You typically lose 90 to 100 hairs per day, so over 4 to 8 weeks, this accumulated hair will be released, not broken.
